The Ōtal Ouroboros logo was derived from an Icelandic symbol or “stave” from the Huld Manuscript, which is a record of ancient rune scripts and staves compiled by Geir Vigfússon in 1860.

The function of the stave was to influence someone to steal something. In the original stave, the creature is not biting its tail. The Ōtal version closes the circle, bringing the creature’s tail into its mouth creating the ouroboros symbol- the cycle of life and death, and infinity of the universe.

This alteration of the stave is also a nod to its original purpose, of influencing a person to steal, and  to referring to the quote “good artists borrow, great artists steal.”
